Getting to Maratua Dive Resort
Maratua Dive Resort is on the north-western coast of Maratua Island. Most guests arrive through Kalimarau Airport (BEJ) in Tanjung Redeb, Berau regency, East Kalimantan. Guests crossing from Sabah can arrive through Tarakan, which needs an overnight stop and a separately arranged boat.
All transfers are arranged before you leave home. Boat transfers depend on sea and weather conditions.
Arriving via Tanjung Redeb
Plan to land at Tanjung Redeb by 2:30 p.m. The boat leaves the river pier no later than 3:00 p.m. A later flight means a night in Tanjung Redeb and the boat the following morning. We can arrange the hotel, which is paid on check-in, and the first night at the resort is still charged.
Arrive Kalimarau Airport Popular routes to Tanjung Redeb are via Jakarta (CGK-BEJ), Surabaya (SUB-BEJ) and Balikpapan (BPN-BEJ). Balikpapan has connections from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
A resort coordinator will meet you in the arrival hall with a sign showing your name.
Land Transfer to the Tourist Pier The journey takes about 20 minutes.
Boat Transfer to Maratua Dive Resort The boat ride takes about 3 hours: 90 minutes along the river to the sea, then 90 minutes across the open water of the Celebes Sea to the resort's jetty.
Arriving via Tarakan
This route suits guests travelling from Tawau in Sabah. The Tarakan boat is a separate arrangement with an additional cost that depends on group size, so ask us before booking your ferry.
Ferry from Tawau to Tarakan The ferry takes about 4 hours. Our partner in Tarakan meets you at the jetty and arranges your overnight stay in the city.
Speedboat to Maratua Dive Resort An early morning speedboat takes about 3 hours, passing Pulau Panjang and Pulau Derawan.
Departure
From Tanjung Redeb, book your outbound flight for 11:00 a.m. or later to allow for the morning boat and the road transfer. A flight before 11:00 a.m. means checking out a day early and spending the night in Tanjung Redeb.
From Tarakan, leave the resort in the morning, spend the night in the city and take the ferry to Tawau the next day.
Allow at least 24 hours after your last dive before any flight.
