Celebes Sea near Semporna, Malaysia

Dive Sipadan, Mabul & Kapalai

A volcanic pinnacle rising from open ocean, a continental shelf teeming with macro life, and an overwater sandbar with mandarin fish at dusk - three entirely different dive experiences within reach from your resort.

The resorts on this page are the base for diving Sipadan — one of the world's top dive sites, known for turtles, chevron barracuda, grey reef sharks, and bumphead parrotfish. Daily permits are strictly limited to 252 divers.

Mabul is a world-class macro destination — frogfish, flamboyant cuttlefish, blue-ringed octopuses, ghost pipefish, and pygmy seahorses. Kapalai, built on stilts over a sandbar, offers a mix of reef life and macro diving including the mandarin fish display at dusk.

Note that Mataking Reef Resort also dives Sipadan but is based on Mataking Island off Semporna's east coast, which requires advance planning.

We've put together a guide to diving at Sipadan, Mabul and Kapalai.
